I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with TheAwayGames_Podcast to talk about my unconventional career path—from entertainment media to working in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and project management, and ultimately betting on myself to launch Black Luxe & Company and the Black Luxe Expo.

As a Black woman, I know the world is often set up to see me fail, but I show up every time to prove it wrong. I have the audacity and confidence in myself to believe that I can be whoever and whatever I want to be.

Whitney Middlebrooks is the CEO and founder of Black Luxe and Company, a marketing studio based in High Point. As a High Point native, Middlebrooks has often wondered about the lack of Black businesses downtown, which continues to be dominated by furniture showrooms throughout the year.

As Whitney Middlebrooks was growing up, all signs seemed to point to a future in entertainment. She was a singer and dancer and participated in numerous talent shows and other performances, including on a Triad-based gospel music television show; she played in the Andrews High School band; and she was a member of a step team.

On December 11, 2021, Whitney Middlebrooks received the Black Excellence Award presented by BlackeMall at the Inaugural Ball & Award Ceremony honoring black excellence and community service.

The Black Luxe Expo features over 100 Black-owned businesses, including BlackEmall Marketplace which is an online multi-vendor marketplace and eCommerce website for minority-owned businesses. The owner, Nnenna Martin, says her goal is to fill a need in the community through her business.
